my new apartment: details

Yesterday I moved into my very first apartment that I’ll be sharing with one of my best friends. We’ve finally got (almost) everything set up, so I wanted to share some pictures of it with you.

The kitchen, where my favourite thing is stored – coffee.

The dinner table, which I’m currently seated at. I think mixing old chairs with a modern table gives it a really cool look.

And of course, some fake flowers (from IKEA). I’d never be able to keep real plants alive, so luckily these fake ones look really fresh and pretty.

Living room with our balcony in the background.

My favourite thing – the bath. I’ve never had a bath tub in my house, they’re not that common in Finland I think.. so I was really excited to finally have one! I already christened it last night, with an ice cold beer and a good book.

And then there’s my room. I’m so happy with how it turned out, I really feel like it “looks” like me – if that makes sense?

I also have a beautiful view of St Michael’s Church from my bedroom window, the architecture is very gothic (read: creepy old castle vibes) and I love it.

Right now I’m drinking coffee and watching Gilmore Girls, as well as eating a coffee-flavoured yogurt, because you know, you can never have too much coffee.

my new nose piercing

Today I finally got my nose pierced after wanting it done for years.

It was probably the most painful out of all my piercings, but it really didn’t hurt all that much! Right now I should be packing all my clothes as I’m moving tomorrow (yikes) but instead I’m rewatching Gilmore Girls on Netflix.

how I style band tees

For this first outfit I paired a men’s band tee with a jean skirt, to give the outfit a casual feminine feel.

joy division tee – had it for years, can’t remember where it’s from

skirt – ltb

shoes – adidas stan smith

For this next outfit I went in a completely different direction. Pairing a Nirvana baseball tee with Nikes for a more sporty and chilled out look.

And, as I’m wearing a baseball tee a baseball cap just felt fitting.

nirvana baseball tee – had it for years, it’s a men’s size small and I’ve cropped it myself

baseball cap – new era

shorts – dr denim, I’ve added the rose patch(from new yorker) myself

shoes – nike air max

For my last outfit I decided to go a bit ‘grungy glam’ I guess you could call it. Ripped jeans, an oversized tee and chunky heels is what it took to create this look.

sunglasses – pieces

kurt cobain tee – stay

jeans – new look

heels – h&m

GRWM: night out

makeup & sparkling wine (drank from a white wine glass I’m a rebel)

For tonight’s look I decided to do a golden bronze-y smokey eye, paired with winged liner of course. I created the look using Maybelline’s The Nudes as well as Urban Decay’s Naked Smoky.

Before I did my hair but after I had some delicious pizza (pizza is life).

And then I actually did my hair, go me! I just curled it using a hair straightener, I love creating these messy beachy waves.

And finally the whole outfit (minus shoes, I decided to just wear my Nike Air Max, because they’re comfy as fuck). We’re going out to celebrate my last weekend in my old hometown, next week I’m moving into my first own apartment and starting university! I’m really excited to start this new chapter of my life!

top – stay (got it in carlings)

jeans – dr denim

shoes – blush/pink nike air max

travel throwback: rhodes

In October 2016 I went to Rhodes. Here’s a lil’ look at the beautiful scenery.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Our hotel was situated right in the heart of Rhodes’ capital, so one day we decided to go to this beautiful beach in a place called Lindos. It was the perfect beach for tourists who just wanted to relax! The water was absolutely stunning (and so warm).

This picture is also from Lindos, there was a narrow pathway connecting two beaches and that’s where this was taken. I want to go back so bad.

And then I decided to try SUPing – first time for everything. It was super chill and really not that difficult.

We came to Lindos on this huge tourist boat, and this was basically our view when we got there. I love the white houses.

This picture was taken on the boat, we stopped in this random spot and you got to jump in the water off the boat and go for a swim!

A panorama of where we stopped, you can see people swimming in the water. I’m not the best swimmer and the ocean was really really deep but I still jumped in.

This was outside of McDonald’s.. #mcdonaldsfreewifiourlordandsaviour. No but really, this was the first time I had bubble tea and it was delicious.

And then I found two friends somewhere in the middle of Rhodes’ town.

I’ve got so many more pictures from this trip, and I want to travel again so bad! I don’t have any decent pictures of Rhodes’ Old Town, but it was absolutely stunning, so if you ever find yourself in Rhodes I recommend you go there!

For my next post I was thinking about showing you how I style band tees, just need to find time to get decent pictures of the outfits in between work and moving!

bitchin’ book club: part one

One thing I really like aside from fashion is books and reading. I’ve always loved to read and I’m not even over-exaggerating when I say I’ve probably read closer to a thousand books in my life. So, I thought I’d start a new ‘series’ where I basically review books I’ve read.

If this isn’t your piece of cake that’s completely fine, but if you however enjoy books and talking about books I’d really appreciate your thoughts on the books I bring up, as well as suggestions for books I maybe haven’t read yet.

So, for part one I’ll review a few of my favourite books ever, not saying too much in case you still want to read them and not have everything spoiled.

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Probably one of the most over-read (is that even a word) books in English classes everywhere. Also probably my favourite book ever. If I had to recommend one book I think everyone should read, then this would be it. Amazingly well-written from the point of view of a witty young girl who doesn’t want to conform to ‘how a girl should be’ in the deep south in the 1930’s. A lot of horrible shit goes down, but I promise you that you will love Atticus Finch by the end of this book. Some may call it overrated, I call it worthy of the praise and attention.

Pet Sematary by Stephen King

Okay so for starters, I fucking love horror. Horror books and movies, thrillers, just anything. Stephen King knows horror. He’s one of my favourite authors, I love the effort he puts into describing all the characters and their backgrounds as well as the scenery surrounding the events of the book. All of these details slowly bring you a well-rounded ensemble as the plot thickens and everything unravels. And it’ll scare the shit out of you so if you like that kind of stuff.. go for it!

The Dead School by Patrick McCabe

I read this book very recently, had never heard of the author nor the book, but damn this has become one of my favourites. It’s a tale of two men meeting, how they affect each others’ lives and eventually both go insane, getting stuck on things from the past. I love how the author jumps between past and present time and switches the point of view between the two main characters. Watching (or rather reading) as they both go insane is truly fascinating – the writing is absolutely amazing. You almost wonder how someone could depict the insanity in such a way, all the irrational thoughts and inner monologue of the main characters.

Holy wow, I just realised how morbid all these book titles are – this was completely unintentional I swear! I just happen to really love all these books. Anyway, let me know what you think of these books and the idea of a bitchin’ book club! I’ll still mainly post beauty and fashion related content, but I figured I’d share another thing I love – plus, I’m going to be a literature student at uni soon so this just fits.

summer essentials

Summer is coming to an end, but I figured I’d share some of my summer essentials before we officially move on into autumn – bring on chunky sweaters and colourful leaves!

Okay, let’s start in the top left corner – Nirvana is one of my favourite bands and I’m utterly fascinated by Kurt Cobain and his entire tale. So when I found this book in a thrift store I just had to get it! I’ve only began reading it though, but I’m already loving how the author doesn’t romanticise any of Kurt’s issues or paint him as the victim like many people do.

Next up, my new Vans. I just got them because all my old ones are completely ruined and I feel like everyone just needs a pair of basic canvas sneakers in their life, and to me those will always be Vans. I blame all the pop punk bands who make Vans look like the coolest brand ever.

Then I’ve got L’Oreal’s colorista hair dye, because I decided to get a blue stripe in my hair á la Fiona from Shameless (high five if you know who that is). There was a time when I used to dye my hair crazy colours and I kinda miss that, but I still wanna stay blonde.. when my hair grows a bit I might start doing ombré hair again.

Sunglasses & my favourite choker – very self explanatory. I love sunglasses and I love chokers. Can’t for the life of me remember the brand of either of them though, got them in a small local clothing store.

And finally, cream of the crop, my revamped Dr Denim jean shorts. I got these shorts a month or two back and I love them because they have a very 90s vibe. However, I recently purchased these iron on floral patches from New Yorker and decided I wanted to spruce them up a bit.
