bitchin’ book club: part one

One thing I really like aside from fashion is books and reading. I’ve always loved to read and I’m not even over-exaggerating when I say I’ve probably read closer to a thousand books in my life. So, I thought I’d start a new ‘series’ where I basically review books I’ve read.

If this isn’t your piece of cake that’s completely fine, but if you however enjoy books and talking about books I’d really appreciate your thoughts on the books I bring up, as well as suggestions for books I maybe haven’t read yet.

So, for part one I’ll review a few of my favourite books ever, not saying too much in case you still want to read them and not have everything spoiled.

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Probably one of the most over-read (is that even a word) books in English classes everywhere. Also probably my favourite book ever. If I had to recommend one book I think everyone should read, then this would be it. Amazingly well-written from the point of view of a witty young girl who doesn’t want to conform to ‘how a girl should be’ in the deep south in the 1930’s. A lot of horrible shit goes down, but I promise you that you will love Atticus Finch by the end of this book. Some may call it overrated, I call it worthy of the praise and attention.

Pet Sematary by Stephen King

Okay so for starters, I fucking love horror. Horror books and movies, thrillers, just anything. Stephen King knows horror. He’s one of my favourite authors, I love the effort he puts into describing all the characters and their backgrounds as well as the scenery surrounding the events of the book. All of these details slowly bring you a well-rounded ensemble as the plot thickens and everything unravels. And it’ll scare the shit out of you so if you like that kind of stuff.. go for it!

The Dead School by Patrick McCabe

I read this book very recently, had never heard of the author nor the book, but damn this has become one of my favourites. It’s a tale of two men meeting, how they affect each others’ lives and eventually both go insane, getting stuck on things from the past. I love how the author jumps between past and present time and switches the point of view between the two main characters. Watching (or rather reading) as they both go insane is truly fascinating – the writing is absolutely amazing. You almost wonder how someone could depict the insanity in such a way, all the irrational thoughts and inner monologue of the main characters.

Holy wow, I just realised how morbid all these book titles are – this was completely unintentional I swear! I just happen to really love all these books. Anyway, let me know what you think of these books and the idea of a bitchin’ book club! I’ll still mainly post beauty and fashion related content, but I figured I’d share another thing I love – plus, I’m going to be a literature student at uni soon so this just fits.
